WorkFirst Career Scope Job Search
Washington’s WorkFirst program is managed by several state agencies. The Department of Social & Health Services (DSHS) is the main partner. In order to participate in WorkFirst, you must be:
- Receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits.
and - Referred by DSHS.
The role of the Employment Security Department (ESD) is help WorkFirst participants find a job and stay employed. ESD’s part of the WorkFirst program is called Career Scope Job Search.
If you are referred from DSHS, ESD will assign you a career coach. Your career coach will meet with you once a week to:
- Introduce you to the WorkFirst Career Scope Job Search program and how we can help you.
- Assess your work skills and interests.
- Help you create a resume.
- Help you improve your interviewing and job searching skills.
- Refer you to other helpful training and workshops.
- Show you how to research careers and find jobs that interest you.
- Refer you to jobs.
- Help you progress in your career, even after your TANF benefits expire.
